Toyota Named Top Automotive Innovator by IPO

The Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) recently unveiled its list of the “Top 300 Organizations Granted U.S. Patents in 2016,” and Toyota was among those announced. The manufacturer was ranked as the Top Automotive Innovator for the third year in a row, proving it’s one of the most ground-breaking companies in the industry.

According to the Intellectual Property Owners Association, Toyota was awarded a total of 1,540 U.S. patents in 2016. It was the only automaker included in the top 20 patent awardees, which stands as a huge honor for the car brand. Always one to promote innovation, some of Toyota’s top technologies developed over the past few years include its Entune 3.0 infotainment system and Toyota Safety Sense suite complete with driver-assist systems that aim to improve in-car safety.

“As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota,” said Jeff Makarewicz, group vice president, Toyota Motor North America Research & Development. “Toyota’s industry-leading patent numbers illustrate the company’s continuous success as global mobility and innovation front runner.”
