Buying a car is one of the biggest purchases you’ll probably ever make, so you’ll want to protect it! Here are a few ways to do just that.
Wash Weekly
Bug remains and bird droppings can build up on your car quickly. These biohazards contain complex proteins and organic acids that bond to your vehicle’s surface. Those elements break down the paint, eating into your clear coat if not removed. If left on your vehicle, they will create weak spots on the clear coat.
This will make your ride vulnerable to discoloration and corrosion. Not only will you want to remove these contaminants off your car, but you’ll want to get it washed on a weekly basis to make sure your vehicle doesn’t have any residual impurities still on it.
Another problem is brake dust that’s produced by your brake pads. Brake dust is highly corrosive and very sticky. Washing your car every week will remove it from your vehicle and help avoid unsightly damage to its finish.
Rinse Your Car First
Rinsing your car before you wash it helps remove loose debris and dirt. Start washing the top of your vehicle first and then work your way down. Because lower panels are the dirtiest, you’ll also want to clean windows and upper panels before cleaning the lower half. That way you’ll avoid transferring grit and grime to the top half of your vehicle.

Dry with Caution
Avoid using bathroom or paper towels to dry your car. These can leave small scratches on your vehicle’s surface. Instead use a soft, microfiber towel.
Dry mirrors and windows first. This will keep you from having to dry them a second time when water splashes up on them while you dry the body of your car.
When you’re finished drying the outside, wipe down the door jams and interior trunk area around the creases.
Use a different towel to dry your wheels though. This will help prevent any cross-contamination on your paint. Using the same towel to wipe off any surfaces under the hood is fine.
The Finishing Touch
Apply a good spray sealant or wax to help rejuvenate the shine of your existing wax. Getting your car detailed at least once a year is a great way to keep it looking like new.
