The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just awarded Toyota with seven Top Safety Pick awards for some of its most popular models. This is the most awards given to any other automaker by the Institute this year, which included IIHS's highest honor of Top Safety Pick+.
Among the honorees was the 2015 Toyota Prius V. The Institute called out the Prius V for its "significantly improved performance all-around in the small overlap crash test." The family hatchback was awarded a top designation of Top Safety Pick+, due largely to the new additions to the car's Advanced Technology package that now includes lane-departure warning and automatic high beams.
Other call-outs by the Institute included the 2015 Toyota Sienna, which was the only minivan to be awarded the Top Safety Pick+ award. Safety amenities are robust on the family van and include standard features, such as full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, antilock disc brakes and a rearview camera, just to name a few.
"At Toyota, our focus remains on the safety and peace of mind of our customers," said Dino Triantafyllos, Toyota's North American Chief Quality Officer. "We're pleased the IIHS has recognized the strong and improved safety performance of our vehicles in a range of crash tests."
The five Toyota vehicles awarded Top Safety Pick+ awards were the 2015 Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius V, Toyota Highlander and Toyota Sienna. Two more Toyota models were awarded a Top Safety Pick designation. They include the 2015 Toyota Avalon and the Toyota RAV4.
