We've still got over a year before the next-generation Toyota Prius arrives on the market, but that hasn't stopped inquiring minds from wondering what the future model has in store. The rumor mill has been circulating with everyone putting in their two cents; however, we haven't received any substantial news - until now that is.
Koei Saga, senior managing officer in charge of powertrain development of the Prius, was recently quoted saying that the upcoming next generation Prius could come with available all-wheel drive. Automotive News was the first to report the news, also revealing that Toyota's popular eco-friendly model may offer a lithium-ion battery pack along with its standard nickel metal hydride-based battery pack. These changes, if carried out, could mean big things for the Prius and cater to a new range of Toyota fans. The optional lithium-ion battery is also likely to improve the electric driving range, extending the car's capabilities and benefiting future Prius owners.
While there are no official details about the next generation Prius, what we can confirm is that it will be completely redesigned and feature excellent fuel economy, along with brand-new batteries - a plus for buyers.
