The 2016 Toyota Tacoma debuted this January at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Detroit show is one of the biggest international auto shows around, where automakers present their best designs and concepts. This year, Toyota decided to use the international setting to debut the all-new Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which has been fully redesigned for the 2016 model year.

"The all-new 2016 Tacoma will be ready to once again set the benchmark for midsize pickup performance," Toyota said in a statement. "Backed by a heritage of unwavering capability, an unbreakable attitude and new, rugged tech, Tacoma's off-road prowess is more formidable than ever."

New features on the popular pickup include a broader front end and a new hexagonal grille. The cockpit's design has been punched up with upgraded materials, larger air vents and a new touchscreen interface that houses upgraded audio and navigation features. Under the hood, look for a new "lean-burn" 3.5-liter V6 direct injection engine that helps increase the truck's fuel economy. A new six-speed automatic transmission also helps the truck's gas mileage - though an optional manual gearbox is also available.

The Tacoma's suspension has  been reworked to give the car a smoother ride on and off-road. Toyota has said that they've cut the Tacoma's weight down through a new body frame that is both lightweight and tough. Buyers will have their choice of an extended-or crew-cab models, as well as a Multi-Terrain Select system for those planning to take the Tacoma off-road.
