The 2017 Toyota Highlander is the latest model from the manufacturer to nab the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Out of Toyota’s lineup, it is the sixth vehicle to walk away with the accolade for the 2017 model year, proving Toyota creates top-of-the-line cars, trucks and SUVs.

“Toyota is firmly committed to a wide range of initiatives further enhancing the safety of Toyota vehicles and peace of mind for our customers,” said Jeff Makarewicz, Toyota’s North American Vehicle, Quality & Safety Engineering Group Vice President. “This sincere dedication to safety by our engineers resulted in another IIHS Top Safety pick for Toyota.”

The latest Highlander model was able to claim the award after earning good ratings in all five of the IIHS’ tests and nabbing a superior rating for its front crash prevention system. The SUV’s standard driver-assist safety equipment also put it at the top of the list for the TSP+ award.

In addition to the Highlander, the 2017 Prius, Prius v, Corolla, Camry and RAV4 have all received a Top Safety Pick+ award. The 2017 Toyota Yaris iA and Avalon obtained a Top Safety Pick accolade.
