Ā Ā The Toyota Battery Center of North America has officially been established at Toyota's Saline, MI, research campus. Measuring 30,000 square feet, the new battery testing and development facility will test cells sourced from Toyota's North Carolina battery manufacturing plant and across the region.
Dedicated engineers at the center will study battery efficiency and create next-generation technologies for Toyota's hybrid, electric, and hydrogen fuel cell models, supporting the automaker's strategy of advancing various powertrains in tandem. Operations will encompass raw material evaluation, production testing, and battery recycling, reinforcing regional testing independence.
Academic researchers from the University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center will also have access to the center's testing equipment. This collaboration is set to train and empower engineers and technicians working with advanced battery technologies.
One key objective for Toyota is to prioritize engineering and design breakthroughs in addition to scaled battery manufacturing. The commitment to advancing hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology reflects sustained customer demand for hybrid vehicles.
The debut of the Toyota Battery Center of North America confirms that Toyota is committed to forward-thinking automotive development. While commercial vehicles powered by the center's next-wave battery solutions will take time to arrive, our dealership is proud to offer an exceptional lineup of Toyota vehicles today.
