Toyota's GR Cup Set to Debut in 2023

Look for Toyota's New GR Cup in 2023

Toyota builds its GR86 sports coupe to keep you uniquely engaged with your driving experience. Now, the automaker has a new, engaging racing series to showcase the GR86.

One of the company's divisions, Toyota Gazoo Racing North America, recently established the GR Cup. Beloved racetracks across the United States will host this series, which will feature identically modified GR86s. An organization that has sanctioned GT races for three decades, SRO America, will govern this series. Look for the inaugural season to give fans 14 races on seven racetracks in 2023. This is expected to be an affordable avenue for drivers to participate in racing events.

Certainly, the series will highlight the Toyota GR86's track-honed features. It will also showcase the GR Cup's founding partners, which include Continental, Mobil 1, and several racing-market brands.

Expect adrenaline-pumping races at each track on the schedule. Away from the track,

fans will find first-class car culture with sponsored displays and hospitality areas. This is a chance to connect with other devotees of Toyota's GR and TRD lines.

To create each vehicle in the single-make GR Cup, professional technicians roll a stock GR86 into TRD's cutting-edge facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. This car receives Alcon brakes, Bosch engine management, a sequential transmission from SADEV, JRI adjustable shocks, Stratasys custom bodywork, and other race-focused components. Expect pricing information for these GR Cup cars to be included in Toyota's announcement about the race schedule and locations later this summer.

This exciting, new racing series will certainly help Toyota's GR logo gain fans, but it will also give the manufacturer's engineers valuable data. Count on the company to apply the information it gains on the track to its future car designs.

We think it will be fun to watch this new racing series grow. If you have any questions about the GR Cup or the GR86, please feel free to ask us. You are always welcome to visit our dealership during business hours.
