Specs at a Glance

In 2020, the Toyota Highlander gets a fresh new look with updates and upgrades inside and out. The latest Highlander gets a sleek new exterior combined with an updated interior that has more standard features and technology than before. Now, all trim levels of the Toyota Highlander are equipped with the company's innovative safety technology called Toyota Safety Sense as well.

The 2020 Toyota Highlander is available in five trim levels. The base trim, called the L, has an impressive number of standard features. It includes smartphone pairing, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay on an eight-inch infotainment display screen. The mid-level trim, called the XLE, gets even more features. Regardless of the trim level you choose, you'll get a good value with the L or the XLE.

Performance

Both trim levels of the 2020 Toyota Highlander have the same engine. They are powered by a V6 that produces 295 HP at 6,600 RPM. Its maximum torque output is 263 LB-FT of torque at 4,700 RPM. This engine has variable-valve timing technology and start-stop engine technology to improve performance and efficiency without compromising fuel economy. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic as the standard transmission. While you can't choose your engine with the 2020 Highlander, you do have the option of getting either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive as your drivetrain.

Appearance

The L and XLE both get LED headlights and LED taillights at a minimum. The XLE also gets LED fog lights. A rear spoiler adds an intriguing style to both. The L features 18-inch alloy wheels, while the XLE gets 18-inch alloy wheels with a machined finish. The XLE gets a few more exterior features to dress up its appearance and add function. This includes roof rails and a sunroof. It also gets a special "XLE" chrome badge. Heated side mirrors are a standard amenity on both trims. The mirrors on the XLE also come with a blind-spot warning.

Features

Both the L and XLE are outfitted with a variety of features designed to make life more comfortable and convenient. Both trims have power-operated windows and three-zone climate control. The base trim comes with black interior door handles, while the XLE gets chrome-accented interior door handles instead. The L has cloth-trimmed seats. Its front seats are multi-way adjustable for comfort and a personalized finish. The XLE gets a slightly more luxurious interior with simulated leather upholstery and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

The XLE also gets a wireless charging pad. The L has a standard infotainment system with an eight-inch display screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It gets a separate 4.2-inch LCD driver's information cluster. The XLE features a slightly larger display for optimal visibility. It also gets a seven-inch driver's information display. The base trim has an eight-passenger occupancy, while the XLE has two captain's chairs in the back and a seating capacity for seven. Both trims have two 12V power charging outlets and four USB ports.

While they have some differences, both the Toyota Highlander L and Highlander XLE make exceptional choices for your next car. Contact us today to learn more and schedule a test drive.
