2017 Toyota 4Runner Overview

Renamed Models, Fresh Features

The latest 4Runner model comes in six trims: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro and Limited. The TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium were previously named Trail and Trail Premium prior to the 2017 model year.


A backup camera, keyless entry, foglights, cloth seating and five 12-volt outlets are featured on the SR5.

TRD Off-Road

Crawl control and locking rear differential are two of the many outfits on the TRD Off-Road variants. A KDSS suspension is also available.


All Premium models receive an auto-dimming rear view mirror, heated outside mirrors, navigation and vinyl upholstery.


The TRD Pro features Nitto Terra Grappler tires, updated front springs, Bilstein dampers and a front skid plate.


The Limited version of the 2017 Toyota 4Runner in Grapevine gets 20-inch wheels, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seating and a 15-speaker stereo system.

Mighty V6 Engine

A 4.0L V6 engine, generating 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque, is assigned to the 4Runner. All models also receive a five-speed automatic--which has been noted in many 2017 Toyota 4Runner reviews for its great acceleration--and have the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

4x2 and part-time 4x4 configurations are offered on Limited and SR5 models, while TRD trims come solely with a full-time 4x4 system.

Safety Functions

Brake assist, traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes and a brake override system are featured on the 4Runner. You will also find a total of eight airbags inside each model, which are designed to help secure occupants on the road. On the Limited trim, you can also add Safety Connect, a system that offers Emergency Assistance Button, Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification and Stolen Vehicle Locator.
