2017 Toyota Highlander Overview

The 2017 Toyota Highlander in Grapevine has received a number of updates this year. A collection of standard safety features, a new V6 engine and a new SE trim have been added for 2017. The SUV's hybrid option also receives some exterior enhancements and a more powerful engine to support its capabilities.

Redesigned taillights, standard LED lights, and silver and chrome finishes can now be found on select models of the Highlander. There are also new paint colors to choose from: Toasted Walnut Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic and Salsa Red Pearl (SE only).

New Features

Highlander buyers can select between six trims this year: LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum. All models offer seating for up to eight passengers, but if you opt for second-row captain's chairs, seating capacity shrinks to seven.

The newest addition to the lineup is the SE trim. It comes with LED running lights, 19-inch wheels, and sporty suspension tuning and styling elements.

On the Highlander Hybrid, new LE and XLE models accompany the previously available Limited and Limited Platinum trims. The former gets 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth, tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and a rearview camera, while the latter adds heated front seats, leather seating, HD radio, a power liftgate and navigation.

Performance Offerings

The LE version of the standard 2017 Toyota Highlander in Grapevine gets a 2.5L four-cylinder engine, delivering 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed automatic is mated to it. Other models receive the new 3.5L V6 powerplant, generating 295 horsepower and 263 lb.-ft. of torque. It's matched to an eight-speed automatic.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid sports a new 3.5L V6 and an electric drive motor that work together to output 206 horsepower. They are supported by an Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive System and help produce an EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined, 30 city and 28 highway.

Safety Amenities

Standard on the SUV is Toyota's Safety Sense P system. A number of driver-assist features, including Automatic High Beams, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Pedestrian Detection and Pre-Collision Warning, are a part of the package. These technologies have been given high marks in many 2017 Toyota Highlander reviews.
