What's New for the 2018 Toyota Tacoma?

With many mid-sized pickups on the market today, truck buyers may have trouble narrowing down the options. One of the more popular vehicles in 2017 was the Toyota Tacoma. In fact, this was the best-selling model last year. Toyota regularly makes changes to its body styles and features, but it has not taken away from the success of the 2017 model. The undeniably powerful exterior body style and thoughtful interior design remain untouched from the 2017 model. With 30 possible configurations between the six trim levels, different engine types and single or double cabs, it is easy to find a great Tacoma that meets your specific needs.

Toyota did make one important and highly beneficial upgrade to the 2018 model. All of the new Tacoma trucks are now better equipped from a safety standpoint. The new Safety Sense P feature boasts innovation through enhancements like radar cruise control, sway warning detection, automatic high beams, pedestrian alert with a pre-collision warning feature, lane departure and more.

Trims & Features

Learning more about the different trim levels of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma is an excellent way to determine which truck option is best-suited for your needs. Your Toyota sales representative can answer your questions about the trims, which include the TRD Pro, the Tacoma Limited, the TRD Sport, the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, the SR 5 and the base level SR. The standard equipment in each of these trim levels varies, so you should spend time speaking with your sales representative in detail about them. All Tacoma trucks for 2018 are well-equipped with some of the same interior features. A few of the features available in all trims include keyless ignition and entry, one-touch power windows, power door locks, dual vanity mirrors with lights, a sound system, adaptive cruise control, a tilting steering wheel with audio and cruise functions on it, power steering, turn signals in the side mirrors, a heating feature in the side mirrors and other features.

Truck buyers understandably are intent on finding a vehicle that meets their needs for acceleration, handling and towing capabilities. Most of the 2018 trims are available in your choice of a four-cylinder engine or a six-cylinder engine. Both types run off of regular gas. The four-cylinder delivers ample power for many needs with 159 horsepower and 180 foot-pounds in torque. The six-cylinder is ideal for those who need more power for towing or other needs. It gives you 278 foot-pounds in torque and 279 horsepower. Other mechanical features should also be considered when looking for a new truck to buy. The 2018 Tacoma has excellent mechanical features, including those for traction and stability. All trims also come with a front independent suspension and a four-wheel drive automatic transmission with six speeds. For both engine types, other related features included are a four-wheel and six-speed automatic transmission, a front suspension with independent design, enhancements for traction and stability and other features.

The 2018 Tacoma received exceptionally high marks in multiple safety tests. For example, U.S. News gave it a rating of 9.3 for safety on a 10-point system.
