What's New For the 2019 Toyota Sienna?

Most vehicle buyers are looking for abundant passenger and cargo space that's also easy to rearrange. Crossovers and SUVs have it but minivans have more. Another popular feature is a cargo area that's shielded from the elements. Minivans can provide this just like their competition but with easier access. Customers also like vehicles that can grip the road. While this may seem to be an advantage of crossovers, the Toyota Sienna is a contender for great handling.

Which Trims and Features are Available for 2019?

No other type of vehicle is going to offer 150 cubic feet of freight space like the 2019 Sienna with its two rear seat rows out of the picture. Even when they're in place on the five Sienna models, L, LE, XLE, SE, and Limited, 39.1 cubic feet of room is exclusively devoted to cargo. The proportions are just as lavish for people. Front-row riders have 41 inches of clearance overhead and 40.5 inches for legs. It's nearly as roomy in the next row back as 39.7 inches is available above and 37.6 inches awaits below.

Normally, other vehicles start getting cramped by the third row, but the Sienna minivan isn't typical with 38.3 inches of headroom and 36.3 inches of legroom. This roominess is supported by abundant accoutrements. In the entry-level L edition, commuters should expect triple climate control zones, AM/FM stereo with Apple CarPlay compatibility, 5 USB ports, a 7-inch LCD control screen, and 3 12-volt outlets. The LE edition adds a CD player and HD radio to the audio system. The XLE is equipped with a moonroof and motorized rear liftgate. It also covers the seats in leather while making front seat positioning automated. At the top, the Limited comes with delights like a double moonroof and 10 JBL speakers including a subwoofer.

What is the Performance Like on the 2019 Toyota Sienna?

2019 Toyota Sienna Front with HeadlightsWith the right engine, a sizable minivan like the 2019 SIenna can maneuver as nimbly as a compact sedan. The right engine is a 3.5-liter V6 delivering a formidable 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. Supporting this block is an 8-speed automatic transmission. Eight speeds creates a wider range of ratios for very high and very low speeds to produce more fluid shifting and greater efficiency. In the Sienna, it produces 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. At 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, choosing the all-wheel drive option takes a little more gas, but gives a lot more peace of mind.

Sienna Safety Features

2019 Toyota Sienna Rear LiftgateThe 2019 Sienna captured 5 stars for overall safety from the NHTSA. While not yet tested by the IIHS, its 2018 counterpart with a virtually identical body received scores of Good in all testing categories. The key behind these results is unibody fabrication that allows the vehicle to absorb and dissipate energy from collisions. The Sienna minivan also earns its reputation as a safe ride from airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, and hill start assist.

Toyota reinforces this renown for safety by adding the Toyota Safety Sense package to every 2019 Sienna model. Safety Sense spots potential front impacts along with pedestrians in the path and warns the driver. It can then activate braking if danger is eminent. This same technology applies to the vehicle leaving its lane. Also, dynamic cruise control and automatic high beams are included. Other safety capabilities include blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the XLE and Limited models and a surround camera on the Limited edition.
