Toyota is adding yet another green car to the marketplace: a RAV4 hybrid. The popular crossover is the latest vehicle in Toyota's lineup to get the hybrid treatment, with the RAV4 marking the eighth hybrid model offered by the automaker.
The new hybrid crossover premiered at the 2015 New York Auto Show, where the public was finally allowed to see the new green car up close. According to reports from the auto show, it looks like the hybrid will pair a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, which should produce around 176 horsepower. The car’s axles will be powered by a new Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system that should give the RAV4 a nice increase in fuel economy, as well as slightly faster acceleration.
Styling-wise, the crossover gets a nice refresh as well. Updates include reshaped LED headlights, a redesigned lower bumper and a slightly more aggressive nose. Hybrid badging on the car’s backend separates it from its gas-only cousin. Inside, the car sports upgraded materials – even redesigned cupholders.
The 2016 RAV4 will also be integrating a new safety system from Toyota called, “Toyota Safety Sense.” The Safety Sense system includes several fantastic features, such as a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning.
