Heading into the 2020 model year, the Toyota Corolla has been completely redesigned to usher in its twelfth production cycle. The best-selling compact car was first unveiled as a twelfth-gen model at the Geneva and New York International auto shows in March 2018.
With seating for up to five people, the 2020 Toyota Corolla provides a passenger volume of 88.6 cubic feet and a cargo volume of 13 cubic feet. Fabric seat trim and 4-way manually adjustable front seats are standard. The LE is spruced up with premium fabric upholstery. The SE also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and it joins the upper-level XSE in providing sports seats. At the XLE level, you will get vinyl seat trim, front-seat heating, and 8-way power adjustability and power lumbar support on the driver's seat. Standard comfort and convenience features on the 2020 Corolla include Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, voice-command technology, a multi-information display, a USB 2.0 port for connecting portable media players, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a three-year trial of Scout GPS Link for navigation and Toyota Safety Connect for emergency assistance, a six-month trial of Wi-Fi Connect with up to 2 GB, and a 7-inch touchscreen.
At the LE trim level, Toyota introduces enhancements or additions such as remote keyless entry, an additional USB 2.0 port (this time, for charging portable devices), and an 8-inch touchscreen (in place of the 7-inch). At the SE trim level, you get a smart key system with push button start-provided that it is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The XLE and XSE stand alone with HD Radio technology, a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM radio, a three-year trial of Toyota Service Connect (for functions such as vehicle health reporting, maintenance reminders, and vehicle alerts), and a six-month trial of Toyota Remote Connect for features such as door lock/unlock and remote engine start and stop ability.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla is available in five trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, and XSE. On the L and LE trims, Toyota installs a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine with 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. A larger, 2.0-liter I4 with 69 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque is placed on the SE, XLE, and XSE. All trims are fitted with a continuously variable transmission except for the SE, which allows you to switch between that and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Most of the 2020 Toyota Corolla's safety features are grouped into two suites: Toyota Safety Sense, which provides a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, road edge detection with sway warning, automatic high beams, road sign assist, lane tracing assist, and full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control; and Star Safety System, which includes vehicle stability control, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology. Also standard are a rearview camera, hill start assist, engine immobilizer as a basic theft-deterrent mechanism, and eight airbags (which consist of two front impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, a passenger seat cushion airbag, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two roof-mounted side curtain airbags).
